Most area rugs are much more affordable than wall-to-wall carpeting.
Unlike wall to wall carpeting they can be replaced easily and
often. An area rug can also add a splash of color and character
to a room without making it look like a cheap Las Vegas hotel.
It will also add warmth and comfort to other types of flooring
such as hardwood or tile.
When shopping for an area rug, the first consideration should
be size. Some will vie for smaller accent rugs in high traffic
areas. Others will choose large area rugs which almost fill the
room. Another interesting way to go is a medium sized rug to accentuate
a sitting area. Whatever your needs, measure the area you wish
to cover and go from there.
If you’re unsure about exactly how big a rug you need,
try using masking tape or a piece of cardboard to help visualize
the area to be covered. This trick may also help you decide if
you want to go with a different shape of rug. Area rugs come in
many different shapes such as square, rectangular, round and oval,
certain shapes will fit certain areas better than others. A more
whimsical approach to interior design is to choose a rug you really
love first and decorate the rest of the room based on its style
and color scheme.
