Braided rugs are not as chic as they once were, but they are
still a versatile, popular flooring choice throughout the world.
They come in several shapes, most commonly rectangular or oval.
The right size of braided rug can be found to fit any room, or
just part of it. A quality rug will last for years if properly
cared for.
Maintenance tips for braided rugs:
• Reverse and rotate rug often for even wear distribution.
• Trim small string sprouts at the base of the rug, do not
pull them out.
• When stronger threads (those used to hold braids together)
break the rug must be repaired immediately. Take the rug to a
rug dealer or use a whip stitch to repair the damage.
• Before cleaning a braided rug, test its colorfastness.
Using a damp cloth, blot the rug. If color appears on the cloth,
the dyes will run during wet cleaning.
Keeping the rug clean is another important facet of maintenance.
Vacuum the rug regularly, most standard vacuum cleaners will do
fine. Never shake or beat braided rugs. Gently blot wet spills
immediately with a sponge or rag. Regular dry cleaning products
may be used on greasy spots. Occasionally, professional deep steam
cleaning may be needed.
