Modern shag rugs are a far cry from the tacky, ubiquitous shag carpets of the 1970s. Today an area shag rug can breathe new life and personality into a room. Shag provides warmth and comfort well beyond any other rug material. A colorful shag rug can turn a room from drab to dazzling and will most likely serve as a conversation piece.
A shag rug is the best way to add warmth to tile, stone, concrete or hardwood flooring. Shag will look great on top of wall-to-wall carpeting as well. High-traffic spots and sitting areas are perfect locations for a rug. Shag rugs can even be hung on walls as warm, interesting decorations.
Many shag rugs feature a variety of colors and textures woven together in layers. This technique creates an exciting, unique look and feel. If you have the opportunity, try picking a shag rug at the beginning of room decoration, rather than the end. Start with an empty room, choose your favorite shag rug then match flooring, wall covering and furniture to the rug.
